Polar Star Jacuzzi
During a considerable refit on board M/Y Polar Star, 3D Tech were contracted to assist with the design and installation of a new composite jacuzzi pool. Working with Oceanco, Gurit and Branagh Marine Composites, our scope of work included:
• Developing the design and constructing a
detailed 3D model of the pool, teak work, glass,
drain grills, control panels etc.
• Design a pipe routing and systems layout in 3D
• Supply a pipe routing 2D layout
• Supply details of required modifications and
penetrations to the steel deck
• Provide a full tooling package

Spreader Conversions
3D Tech regularly assists with spreader end modifications. By utilising 3D CAD we can create accurate part models with specified angles for cable axis, lift angle and angle of attack. The parts can be CNC machined from solid carbon blocks and fitted to existing spreader with ease and greater accuracy.

Moonbird Bimini
The client approached us with some preliminary lines for a new hardtop carbon fibre bimini. Our first task was to design a full-scale mock up CNC cut from polystyrene and fitted to the boat to assess visual impact and sight lines.
Following some tweaks, 3D Tech redesigned the bimini and constructed a detailed model incorporating full construction, lighting and drainage detailing. From the model, we designed accurate CNC cut tooling incorporating fine details to assist with assembly and accurate installation.

Polar Star Bimini
The preliminary lines for this hardtop bimini were supplied by Oceanco Naval architects in Holland. 3D Tech developed these lines together with the build and engineering team into a detailed and accurate 3D model including full Webasto window assembly to ensure fit. 3D Tech also provided full polystyrene tooling and jigs for an efficient manufacture process and a seamless installation.

Keel Bulb Repair
After a collision with a reef, the keel bulb suffered some considerable damage. By using 3D scanning bulb, 3D Tech could overlay scan data with an existing model to assess the extent of deformation and compare it with the original geometry. We were also able to estimate the volume and mass of the deformed material.
To repair the bulb, designers German Frers, supplied a 3D CAD Model of a new bulb. At 3D Tech, we could use the new bulb geometry and the scan data from the damaged bulb to create CNC cut templates.

S/Y Maria Cha III - Ballast Transfer Design
This highly successful project involved redesigning the complete transfer system including pipes and pumps to maximise the pickup, dump and transfer speeds during racing. Initial transfer time was 7000 litres in 11 minutes. The new target rate was 7000 in 2 minutes, or 58 litres/sec.
All the joints and bends were fully customised for highest efficiency and were manufactured in composite over 5 Axis CNC cut tooling.
Final transfer rate was quicker than the target.

Aquijo Helm Screen Cover
A frequent problem with helm screens is glare and screen overheating. 3D Tech solved both issues onboard the iconic Sail Yacht Aquijo.
Using an elegantly slim profile design, and drop-down side wings, the helm screen cover design provides excellent shade and is unobtrusive to the rest of the console's feature of functions. Clever internal magnets help lock the cover in the open and closed positions and gas struts will support the open cover if only one wing is required.

Swan 115 Hatch
As this Swan is primarily used for racing, take down speeds are critical. The existing sail hatch was small with a lot of friction around the hatch opening. To increase takedown efficiency, 3D Tech first engineered and specified and increase clear opening length from 1100mm to 1800mm. 3D Tech specified all the deck modifications and reinforcements, keeping the racing performance in mind at all times.

M/Y Eupheme Custom Fenders
For this project, the client requested two lightweight rigid fenders which could be easily deployed and fixed firmly to the gunwale of chase boat Eupheme. Within 2 minutes, both fenders can be removed from a set of custom chocks on the aft deck and locked solidly onto the gunwale with 4 locator pins and few turns of a twist lock bolt.

Navigation Light Pod
M/Y Eminence requirements were to install CCTV cameras to the underside of the nav light pods on each side of the superstructure. However, the overall depth of the existing pods was too small to accommodate the cameras, so needed to be increased in depth. The existing pods were first 3D scanned to create a 3D CAD model of the boat. We could then manipulate the geometry of the scanned pod and increase the depth on the model of to suit the camera. This method allowed us to design a new pod, big enough to house the camera, but the inside of the pod matching the shape of the boat exactly.
